About me

Hi, my name is Danielle Black. I'm originally from New Jersey, but I currently live in Austin, Texas where I teach sixth grade math at Lake Travis Middle School. I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and I will graduate from Michigan State University in August 2020 with a Master of Arts in Education. I have been teaching for seven years - six of those years in sixth grade math and one in seventh grade math.

As a math educator, I believe in the importance of giving my students opportunities to engage in mathematics that is relevant to the real world. I facilitate lessons to help my students make mathematical discoveries through exploration, collaboration, and discussion. A goal that I have each year is for my students to leave my class equipped with the skills to solve twenty-first century problems.

An interesting fact about me is that I have lived in seven different states throughout my life - New Jersey, Missouri, Illinois, Texas, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Virginia. People always ask me which state was my favorite, but that's an impossible question to answer because they all have a special place in my heart. Moving around so much has taught me how to be a more adaptable and open-minded person.

In my free time, I love to travel and explore new places. Some of my favorite countries that I've been to are Iceland, Denmark, and the Czech Republic. I have also been learning Spanish and am eager to travel to a Spanish-speaking country soon! Another hobby that I have is playing and watching sports. I play in a recreational flag football league and my favorite teams are the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Longhorns.
